BOXWOOD GRAPEFRUIT OLD FASHIONED

MANY PEOPLE LOVE BOURBON. MANY MORE DON’T THINK THEY DO, BUT PERHAPS THEY JUST HAVEN’T BEEN INTRODUCED TO THE CORRECT COCKTAIL!
THE RECIPE BELOW WORKS OUTSTANDING FOR SMALL GROUPS, BATCHED FOR LARGER GROUPS, OR PERHAPS JUST AS A SINGLE DRINK IN A STOLEN HOLIDAY MOMENT AWAY FROM THE NOISE.

BE CAREFUL, IT’S BUT A SHORT JOURNEY FROM THIS TO DRINKING EAGLE RARE ON THE ROCKS . . .

BOXWOOD GRAPEFRUIT OLD FASHIONED

Ingredients:

  • Simple Syrup

  • Bourbon

  • Fresh-squeezed Grapefruit

  • Ice (preferably a block, but we don’t judge)

  • Bitters

Instructions:

  • Buy simple syrup. Or be adventurous and make your own! Place a saucepan over medium heat, add equal parts water and sugar depending on how many cocktails you are planning. (At least ½ cup of water and ½ cup of sugar.) Bring to a boil and then quickly lower the heat. Continue to stir until all the sugar disappears, and let cool.

  • Before juicing grapefruits, slice several thin pieces of the grapefruit skin to use as a garnish. Juice the grapefruits and strain into a measuring cup.

  • For the cocktail, use a ratio of approximately:

    • 4 oz Grapefruit Juice

    • 1 oz Simple Syrup

    • 2 oz Bourbon (your choice, but we prefer Buffalo Trace, or Eagle Rare if trying to impress the party)

    • 2-3 dashes of your favorite bitters.

  • Stir to combine and garnish with grapefruit peel.
Repeat until all guests are in the Christmas spirit!
